Test the first few minutes
The opening minutes reveal a lot. Ask whether the controls make sense, whether the objective is clear, and whether the game gives you a reason to continue.
Pay attention to controls
Controls should feel predictable rather than surprising. If basic movement or interaction feels awkward after a reasonable adjustment period, the game may not suit your preferences.
Check the pacing
A good game does not need constant action, but it should use its quieter moments intentionally. Long stretches without meaningful interaction can make a short game feel much longer.
Look at performance
Notice loading behavior, responsiveness, and whether the game runs comfortably on your device. Performance problems can turn an otherwise interesting idea into a frustrating experience.
Ask whether you actually enjoy the loop
Reviews and ratings can provide context, but your own experience matters most. If the central action is enjoyable and you naturally want to try again, the game has probably passed the most important test.
Know when to move on
Not every game needs to be finished. If the controls, pacing, or core mechanic do not work for you, trying another title is often a better use of your time.
